Girls Weekend

It is that time of year and I can't wait.  Columbus weekend has a very special meaning to me and a group of my friends.  That is when we take our annual Girls Weekend trip.  Some go every year and others go when money and schedules allow.  Since I do not have kids, I can go every year.  This year we selected Key West.  I plan on eating a slice (or two) of Key Lime Pie every day.   I did use it an excuse to go on a small shopping trip.  I went to very wallet  friendly stores (Old Navy, H&M) and even got some things to wear to work.  Between shopping & eating my friend Lisa and I got pink extensions to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  I think that will also become an annual event.  THINK PINK!

Trash & Lash

So, I was catching up on a blog that I follow the other day and I was shocked at how this blogger was trashing people for wearing Tory Burch or carrying a Coach or Vera Bradley purse.   Really?  You've got to be kidding me.  Normally I'm not one to carry a purse more than one season.  It has to be AMAZING for me to hold onto it.  I finally bought a few VB so I can use it and give away without spending a great deal of money.  My niece loves my purse addiction - she has been given many a bag from my Coach phase.   And the Reva ballet flats, I plan on those lasting  me many years.   She also digs on people that dress like "fashion bloggers"and do not know how to be themselves.  I was so taken aback that I stopped following her.    Bless her heart is all I can say!

three for me

Here is another addition of three things that are my must haves.

  • A great bag that goes with everything.  This one is large enough to keep a pair of  flats (in a dust cover) as well as the other must haves on my list.   It is currently a great buy at Kate Spade.

  • A cute yet very practical shawl for those in between days.   Esp places that blast the a/c and freeze you out, or the grocery store (I'm always freezing in there).  I bought this prayer shawl at World Market a few years ago and it lives in my bag from fall to spring.  It's perfect for traveling.  Yup, I've  been known to use it as a blanket.

  • Something to read.  It is amazing that I seem to have to sit around and wait for everything even though I'm on time.  I was not sure about an e-reader, but I must admit I do love my kindle.

What are your must haves?

p.s. Yesterday I did confess to the hubs that I could carry a new bag everyday for the rest of my life.  He knew I had a problem, just not that bad of one.

9/11 - 10 yrs later

I will never forget this beautiful Tuesday.  My Mom called me to let me know about the 1st plane hitting the World Trade Tower.  The rest of the day was a nightmare.  I remember  walking my Yorkie Max and hearing a plane, looking up in the sky and seeing a fighter jet.   I was living in Virginia, not far from the Pentagon at the time.   I saw the Pentagon burning.  A friends 3 brothers were firefighters that responded there.  I heard some horrible stories about trying to recover the victims.

I fly my flag proudly everyday, I am American.  I plan to visit all three memorials.  I hope you get to as well.

Rafting trip means Biscuit World!

6 lb lollipop on top

funky chickens at tamarac

Back in April the hubs & I went to Kentucky to see his brother.  While we were in West Virginia we kept seeing signs for Tudors Biscuit World and when we stopped to try we found it closed.  I am pleased to say we went there for breakfast not once, but twice.  Sunday was an over easy egg w/a biscuit and gravy.  We then spent the day rafting on the New River with the BIL & fam.  The girls wanted Biscuit World the next morning and who I am to say no?  Off we went to a different location and I ordered the Tootie - egg, cheese & country ham.   The size of the biscuit is crazy.  They are huge and were worth the trip.    So, did I agree to go rafting to spend the weekend w/the family or to eat biscuits?  I will never tell.

Leftover uses

Fried rice means leftovers to me and I never order it from Chinese restaurants. I do like to bring home the rice and make rice pudding.  My Mother used to make a great baked recipe and has passed it on to me.  I work with people that refuse to eat any.  Some dishes are best the next day,  lasagne anyone?  Growing up in an Italian American household I learned  frittata's are a great way to use leftover pasta.  I especially like to add goat cheese to them.  They are great with mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, I could go on and on.  I did not plan on blogging about my delicious dinner and neglected to take any pics.    Here is one from Williams-Sonoma and their recipe.

I did take a pic of my eggs. I'm sure you can find a ton of recipes if you look.  I make mine up as I go, depending on what is in my fridge.   You do not need a fancy pan, an old fashioned cast iron one works great.  I hope you make one soon.
